A finger in my nose

So this morning at 3:30 a.m. I am in a wonderfully deep sleep dreaming some kind of crazy thing and I am jarred awake by the strangest sound I've ever heard coming from my daughters monitor. Now, if you knew me you would know how rare it is for me to actually get deep sleep, so I was a bit peeved to be taken out of it. Anyway, I run to kiddos room and she is making this weird ass coughing/hacking/wheezing sound and almost in tears with the pain in her throat. I immediately kick myself because I had been peeved I was awoken from my sweet, deep slumber. She begs me to call the doctor. Yes, that is right, she begs me. She is a 4 year old who LOVES going to the doctor. Nobody has ever accused me of having a normal kid! I calm her down, get her some cold water to drink to help her throat, and tell her we'll call the doctor just as soon as they open. That seems to appease her and I then am crazy enough to agree to sleep with her.

I did mention I hardly ever get to enjoy a deep sleep, right? Well, it takes her until almost 5 a.m. to go back to sleep and, so, that means I don't sleep until that time. When I do awaken to my husband telling me my alarm went off I have her finger up my nose, a foot in my side, and I am BARELY clinging to the side of the mattress. A perfect 6:30 a.m. start to the day!

Turns out kiddo has the beginning stages of the croup, so we are trying to keep it from getting worse. I hope she sleeps better tonight and I am lucky enough to find at least a bit of peaceful sleep. If not, I may sew my finger to the embroidery machine tomorrow on my second day of a part-time job. Probably not the best thing to do.
